Command Sergeant Major Brian G. Soper was selected as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the Minnesota National Guard on September 7, 2019.

CSM Soper's immediate previous assignment was as the Senior Enlisted Advisor-National Guard to United States Army Pacific.

A native of Devils Lake, North Dakota, CSM Soper enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985 and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training as a 16S (MANPADS Stinger Crewmember) at Fort Bliss, Texas. His initial assignment was HHD 2D AD (FWD), Garlstedt, Germany, where he served as a MANPADS Stinger Crewman. CSM Soper continued his service as a Guardsman in North Dakota and Minnesota and has held every enlisted leadership position in his career, from team leader to command sergeant major.

In addition to two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as a platoon sergeant and a first sergeant, CSM Soper deployed once in support of Operation New Dawn as the brigade operations sergeant major for the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division.

CSM Soper's military education includes all levels of professional military education. CSM Soper currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major in Airport Management from the University of North Dakota.

CSM Soper's military decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award); Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award); Army Commendation Medal (3rd award); Army Achievement Medal (3rd award); Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal (2nd award); Iraq Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device and silver hourglass; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th award); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award); Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (2nd Award); Combat Action Badge; Minnesota Good Conduct Ribbon (6th award); and the Minnesota Service Ribbon (6th award). CSM Soper has also been awarded the Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Staff Identification Badge and the Combat Action Badge.
