Minnesota National Guard Celebrates Opening of a Maintenance Facility in New Ulm
NEW ULM, Minn. – Thursday, the Minnesota National Guard is conducting a ribbon-cutting
ceremony for a new maintenance facility in New Ulm, which provides advantages to the Guard
and the community.

“The new maintenance facility in New Ulm marks a point of recommitment for both the
Minnesota National Guard and the City of New Ulm,” said Army Lt. Col. Mark Gile,
Commander of the 1-125th Field Artillery Regiment. “This facility brings new capabilities and
doubles our current facility’s size, adding jobs for our Guard members from this city and the
area. From track to wheeled vehicles, the New Ulm Army Field Maintenance Shop will be
responsible for supporting units in southwest Minnesota from Highway 169 west to South
Dakota.”

The new facility consists of 25,000 square feet for 10 service bays, an equipment wash bay, and
a general storage bay, allowing units in southwest Minnesota the ability to train on more of their
equipment. Staff will have an additional 6,400 square feet for classrooms and offices.
The second phase of this project, scheduled for 2025, will be to build a new National Guard
Readiness Center adjacent to the Field Maintenance Shop that will bring new capabilities to the
New Ulm-based battalion. More classrooms, a larger drill floor, and handicap-accessible
bathrooms will make training more assessable to the service members and a better alternative
community space in New Ulm.

“We recognize and appreciate the investment that the Minnesota National Guard is making in
our community,” said Sarah Warmka, President of the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce. “We
love having the Guard here and look forward to many years of continued partnership.
