Warrant Officer careers

Warrant Officers serve as technical experts and provide critical perspective and leadership in the Minnesota Army National Guard. Warrant Officers are commissioned officers that focus on progressing in their career field, rather than moving to higher levels of command. As a leader, manager, and trainer, you will provide recommendations to commanders, advice to peers, and guidance to subordinates.

Administrative Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age but not older than 46 years of age at the time of initial appointment. Waivers over 46 years of age may be considered.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen. (No Waivers)
  • GT Score of 110 or higher. (No Waivers)
  • High School Graduate or pass the General Education Development (GED) test. (No Waivers)
  • Must be able to take and pass all events of the APFT/ACFT and meet HT/WT criteria IAW AR 600-9.
  • Must have a Secret security clearance at a minimum to appoint as a WO. (No Waivers)
  • Pass a chapter 2 commissioning physical.

Predetermination Packet (PDP) Steps:

  1. Identify prospects through;
    1. Unit Leaders
    2. Unit Briefings
  2. Identify qualified applicants
    1. Review requirements
  3. Contact WOSM
    1. WOSM will review applicants qualifications
  4. Once WOSM approves, complete the following and submit to WOSM.
    1. Battalion Commander Letter of Recommendation
    2. Company Commander Letter of Recommendation
    3. Senior Warrant Officer Resume
PDP NOTES:
  1. The WOSM submits the PDP to the prospective proponent for consideration of the applicant's technical qualifications.
  2. Requirements can be met through military OR civilian experience. It is therefore critical to take into consideration ALL experience the Soldier has when building a PDP. The WOSM can provide specific guidance and expertise and is available to assist on all packets.
  3. If approved by the proponent, the next steps for the Soldier are
    1. Complete a Chapter 2 Commissioning Physical
    2. Appear before the Federal Recognition Board (FRB).
Federal Recognition Board:

The FRB consists of a panel of senior, MNARNG, Officers & Warrant Officers that will evaluate the candidate's moral and leadership qualifications. Once FRB approved, the WOSM will schedule Warrant Officer Candidate School.

-Two Phases

  1. Phase 0: Preparatory Drill Weekends in February
  2. Phase I: 2 week AT @ Camp Atterbury, IN - March
  3. Phase II: Drill @ CRTC from April – August (5 Months)
Federal WOCS

-One ADT Period

  1. 5-week resident course at Fort Novosel, Alabama that runs throughout the year
Accelerated WOCS

Two Phases

  1. Phase I: 10 day resident course at Fort McLellan, Alabama that runs throughout the year
  2. Phase II: 14 day resident course at Fort McLellan, Alabama that runs throughout the year
