First Lieutenant Jason G. Timmerman, of Tracy, MN, was born on March 20, 1980 in Marshall, MN. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Cottonwood, MN in 1998. First Lieutenant Timmerman’s military career began when he enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard April 11, 1997. His specialty was a 13B Cannon Crewmember. His military education includes Basic Combat Training (BCT) 1997, Advanced Individual Training (AIT) 1998, Officer Candidate School (OCS) 2001, and Officer Basic Course (OBS) 2002.

First Lieutenant Timmerman enlisted as a Private with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 151st Field Artillery. He continued to serve in Battery A, 1-151st Field Artillery after completion of AIT. In 2001 he was appointed as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to Battery B, 1-151st Field Artillery as a Fire Direction Officer. First Lieutenant Timmerman was assigned to Battery C, 1-151st Field Artillery in 2004, and deployed to Iraq as a Platoon Leader. On February 21, 2005 First Lieutenant Timmerman was assisting injured Soldiers in his unit near Baghdad, Iraq when an Improvised Explosive Device detonated killing First Lieutenant Timmerman along with two others from his unit.

First Lieutenant Timmerman’s military decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “Mobilization” Device, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Minnesota Good Conduct Ribbon and the Minnesota Service Ribbon (V Device).
